Downtime.

We're sorry about the current downtime - we're working on it and we hope the site will be back up soon.

Thank you for your patience, and also thank you to the people who have sent us messages regarding this issue.

Proofers and Coders Needed!

Do you have a good command of the English language?
Do you like Harry Potter smut?

If you can say YES to the above and you've got 3-8 spare hours per week, RS.org wants you! We're in need of people who can both proof and code fics for the site, so if you're interested, please leave a comment here or email moderator@restrictedsection.org for consideration.

We look forward to having you - I mean hearing from you! ;)

EDITED TO ADD: To be clear: if you want to work for RS, you will be proofing fics for addition to the site, not working with authors who send them in, and then you will be coding them. Also, if you respond here rather than email, you must leave your email address in your comment or I will not be able to contact you. Thanks.

Help RS.org Sponsor a Witching Hour Event!

Hello all! This is Morri, your erstwhile Headmistress. I hope you're all enjoying the site.

First, I wanted to apologize for the outage yesterday. We had a password issue that was quickly fixed by Zorac, thankfully.

Now on to the issue at hand. As many of you are no doubt aware, the 2nd major Harry Potter 'convention' for adults is happening this coming October in Salem, MA. I will be there as I am working for TWH and I am also presenting on a panel (which I did at Nimbus as well, if any of you were there). I really hope that if you haven't already signed up to go to TWH, you check it out, because it's going to be a great time! I'd certainly love to meet and talk to some of you.

Now, at Nimbus 2003, RS.org sponsored one of the programming events, and that's part of the reason I'd like to continue the tradition. In addition, TWH is doing something extra special in that every fandom entity that sponsors something will also have a 'bid' in for a space on the 'new' Fandomopoly. When the original game was designed by Cygnus, RS.org won the 'Park Place' space next to FictionAlley's 'Boardwalk' space by a Livejournal vote. The icon I use here is an image from that original RS gamecard. But it's not going to be so easy to get on the board this time, I'm afraid.

We can do a sponsorship for as little as $50, however, that won't get us much on Fandomopoly. The total amount we send in is what will get us a place, and the higher the amount, the better our chance for a good spot on the gameboard. And that's where you all come in.

I know it sounds cliched to say "If every person reading this donates a dollar, we can do it" but it's absolutely true. But I know not everyone can and I understand that. So please, if you can donate anything to the cause, please click on the banner below. Tell your friends. We have to have the bid in by the end of THIS MONTH, so please do it as soon as you can.

Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you all in advance!!

Site down

Hello everyone -

Yes, the site is down. No, we don't know why. No, we don't know how long it'll be down. Hopefully the tech gurus will be taking care of it soon. Thanks for your patience.

Don't start >:0!!!

Please excuse the mess

The review boards have been hacked. Have I ever mentioned how much I can't stand hackers? They could be making loads of money using their skills for good, but instead they do stupid things like this. My apologies - hopefully the RS Tech Guys will be able to fix things very soon. We appreciate your patience.

RestrictedSection v 2.0 is live!

The old version of the site was great...but. There were a number of issues and things we wanted to work better, so that's one of the things we've been working on for some time now. So - TADA! Welcome to version 2.0! Here are the new things you should know about:

  • You will need to re-register for the stories. Your review board login information will still work, but in order to access the stories, you will need to set up a new account. The link to register is right here: Registration Page, and you can also find it in the top right corner when you enter the site. We know this is annoying, but please bear with us - really the only way we could fix all those login problems was to build a brand new system.
  • Now, instead of just browsing by author, you can find stories by their title or the date they were uploaded.
  • The search engine has been improved, with a few extra features - for example, put 'f/f' in the 'include pairings' box and 'm/f, m/m' in the 'exclude pairings box' for a femmeslash search, etc.
  • You can also customize how the site runs for you. At the bottom, click the 'profile' link and scroll down - you can change how the site looks for you, what additional information you want in a search, and how often the disclaimer comes up.
  • Our recreational discussion board, Buckbeak is a Great Ugly Brute, is also a lot easier to get to - just click 'Discussion Boards' at the bottom.
  • You'll notice that when you click on either 'Stories by Author' or 'by Title,' you will be taken to a random letter of the alphabet. This is just to make things a bit more interesting - you can then click on any letter you want as this only happens once a session.

  • As for those who have submitted stories but don't see them on the site - give us a few days before you email us about it. We've got a backlog of a little over a month to upload, so it might be up to a week before we get all of them up.

If you have any questions about the new site, feel free to email us at email us and we'll help you out. ;) And I'd also like to say THANK YOU to everyone who donated their time to get the new site up and running, especially my zorac. Didn't he do a brilliant job?

I hope you like what we've done to the site - thanks again for reading!

    It's been a year already?!

It's Restricted Section.org's first birthday today!

Here are a few statistics for those of you who might be curious:
    We have...
  • 37636 registered users
  • 1678 stories and chapters on the site
  • 1046 members on the Howlers list
  • 1827 users on the Review Boards, who have posted about 2800 reviews so far

  • Thank you to all of my wonderful mods - ebbil_libbie, lissannej, tobymalfoy, hautemonde, eleveninches, resmiranda, sincelastjuly, sheselectric, athene_51, zorac and a few others without LJs. This wouldn't have happened without all of you, and I appreciate everything you do and continue to do.

Thanks also to all of our authors, readers and reviewers - we'd have no reason for this site if not for you.

    Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

    Nimbus-2003!

RestrictedSection.org is pleased to be involved with Nimbus-2003! We will be sponsoring a presentation and also taking part in Fandom Squares, and we hope to see some of you there, too! But fear not - not all of our mods are able to attend Nimbus, and they will be available to keep the site going as usual. So if you have any questions, please email to moderator@restrictedsection.org and one of them will get back to you as soon as they can.

As always, thanks for reading and supporting RestrictedSection.org!

    - Morrigan, off to Nimbus-2003 very soon!
